Ricardo Ferreira uit Maaspoort ontwikkelde Sofio voor zijn dochter. Ouders en grootouders spreken zelf namen, weetjes en zoekaanwijzingen in.

Een bekende stem maakt een digitaal spel persoonlijk. Dat is het idee achter Sofio: Toddler Learning Games, een ontdekspel voor iPhone en iPad van de Bossche vader en onafhankelijke ontwikkelaar Ricardo Ferreira. Hij woont in Maaspoort en maakte het spel voor zijn dochter.
De stem van thuis
In Sofio spreken ouders, grootouders of andere verzorgers zelf korte opnames in bij plaatjes van bijvoorbeeld dieren en voertuigen. Het kind hoort vervolgens die vertrouwde stem tijdens het spelen. De menu's zijn Engelstalig; de opnames kunnen gewoon in het Nederlands of in een andere taal van het gezin worden gemaakt.
Ontdekken en zoeken
Het spel heeft twee speelvormen. Bij EXPLORE tikt het kind op een plaatje en hoort het de ingesproken naam en een klein weetje. Bij FIND IT! luistert het naar een apart ingesproken aanwijzing en zoekt het het juiste plaatje. Een goed antwoord speelt de naam en het weetje opnieuw af. Een volwassene maakt de opnames vooraf in het oudergedeelte. Beginnen kan met één plaatje; meer opnames kunnen later worden toegevoegd.
Gratis beginnen
Sofio is gratis te downloaden. Boerderijdieren en Voertuigen zijn inbegrepen; extra werelden zijn optionele eenmalige aankopen. Het spel heeft geen advertenties of abonnementen. De stemopnames worden op het apparaat bewaard en niet naar de ontwikkelaar geüpload. Apparaatback-ups kunnen wel appgegevens bevatten.
Van een gezin naar andere gezinnen
Met Sofio brengt Ferreira zijn eigen gezinsidee naar andere ouders en kinderen. Op playsofio.com staan echte spelbeelden en een korte handleiding voor de eerste opname. Ricardo beantwoordt graag vragen per e-mail over het ontstaan en de werking van het spel.
